really liked it
bookshelves: fiction
Recommended for: Coetzee fans
Read in February, 2007

The only corollary I can recall would be South African writer J. M. Coetzee's Disgrace. If you want a pull-no-punches, stays-in-your-head meditation on the clashing of cultures, with a bit of gender issues thrown in for good measure, this is your book. But be warned: the reader is just as complicit as the characters and their misguided decisions. Highly recommended.
