First book in a trilogy. Now I need to add the other two. I am a fan of McCarthy and this book was more than I expected, hence the high rating I gave it. Whenever I closed this book to do other things I felt that I had dreamed this story instead of having just read it. I am sure that others may not feel this way but I have to admit that I was immersed in the rich descriptions of the land and the people. The book is moody and the author delivers it well.

McCarthy uses Spanish/Castilian language for dialogue that occurs between the roaming texans and the Mexican persons that they meet with. I thought it added tremendous realism to the scene. This may be a barrier for some readers since there is usually no translation offered.
