Contagious by Scott Sigler 3.7

This is the second book of a 2 book series (Infected & Contagious), and they should really be read in sequence as they tell a complete story. There are only a couple of weeks that elapse between the books.

Sigler is not a great writer, but he is a master story teller. Although he does several neat things in these books, his main talent is his ability to use the bizarre and shocking to provoke thought and emotion at a fairly high level.

These books remind me of the most shocking scenes from Quentin Tarantino movies, combined with Jack Nicholson’s climactic final scene in “A Few Good Men”. If you thought Tom Cruise was the bad guy in that movie, you will love this story.

It’s a story about justifying rage, and the ends justifying the means in the extreme. We live in the world we live in because we lack the discipline, and the courage, to do what needs to be done. However, Sigler’s goal is not to persuade, but entertain.

And entertain he does. With a shocking and graphic tale, that takes the reader on a roller coaster ride of entertainment.
