It is obvious that John Flanagan has a lot of fun writing these books. And that makes them equally fun to read.
Our crew is now far from home. Horace has gone on a diplomatic (of sorts)mission halfway around the world to Nihon-Ja. He is a guest of the Emperor and quite enjoying his visit when a revolt against the Emperor arises. Rather than leave the country, Horace goes into exile with the loyalists.
Next thing we know, the rest of the cast (Will, Halt, Alyss and Princess Evanlyn) and an accompanying crew of Skandians set out to find Horace.
The bulk of the story is an exciting action/adventure story of our gang helping the Emperor regain his throne. Lots of military action scenes.
The fun part of the series is the interplay between our main characters and this book is no exception.

A worthy addition to the series.
