This was one of the most interesting books, I've read all year. In the beginning, I wasn't quite sure who was narrating the story, but class discussions helped to me to realize that it was the little boy in the sailor suit. The distancing view of the narrator, made it look like I was on the outside looking in on the story. I also loved how it was constantly changing stories from chapter to chapter. However, E.L. Doctorow did a good job correlating and interweaving each story into each other. In the beginning, each character had their own persona and storyline, but in the end all the conclusions had an effect on each other. Whether that effect or impact was minor or major, it played some type of role in the end. While watching the movie, I found it to be a poor imitation of the book. There was some big themes, scenes, and characters that they removed, that really brought down the movie. However, there were some things they played out really well. Definitely a book to remember.
