Dark Water Rising

The author of Dark Water Rising is Marian Hale.

This is a fictional story.

It was published by Henry Holt and Co. in 2006 and has 240 pages.

The setting is: Galveston, 1900.

The main character is Seth and other characters are Uncle Nate, mom, Ella Rose, dad, Josiah.

Here is what happened early in the story: Uncle Nate told Seth's father that Galveston was very nice and that they should move there. However, Seth did not want to move to Galveston because he wanted to go to Carpenter school. Seth's dad wanted him to go to college to become a doctor.

Here is what happened during the story: Seth got a job as a carpenter with Josiah
(a colored boy) and he really enjoyed working in carpentry. They heard about a storm coming but they were not too worried because the meteorologist for the island said it was going to be small storm. But the meteorologist was wrong. The storm became a hurricane and it demolished a lot of houses and killed many people.

Here is what happened at the end of the story: Uncle Nate was still missing but not reported dead. Seth and Josiah made it out alive along with Ella Rose. There were so many dead bodies they had to burn them on beach.

Why did I like Seth? I admired Seth because he did not give up trying to look for his family.

Why did I choose to read Dark Water Rising ? I really didn't want to read this book, but my Texas History teacher, Mrs. Figueroa made me.

I did not like the book for this reason: I did not like this book because I thought it was boring. It could be better by adding more pictures and action.
