I'm not a Clancy reader, and I don't think I'll pick up another one of his titles. I saw the film first, and it's really one of my favorite films to watch. If I ran my own nickleodeon, I would pair "The Hunt for Red October" with "Jaws" as an afternoon double feature. The film adaptation did a rather good job of translating the book's story and the film elevated the book's humor and suspense. My main complaints with the book were the unclear technical writing and the drawn out conclusion. However, what made me adamant of ever reading Clancy again were the unrelenting grammatical and spelling errors. This book must be in it's 30th or 40th printing, and they can't fix this crap?! Otherwise, it's exactly what I would expect from a Clancy novel and I haven't been missing anything for the past three decades.
