Reading this is like reading a collection of really outstanding first person short stories concerning the disaster. No shortage of horrific details in here, no shortage of humanity either, as we get to hear from a cross-section of those connected to Chernobyl: people from the surrounding villages, soldiers, liquidators, hunters, bureaucrats, children. I finished the last page and wanted to turn back to the first and start again. Highly recommended.
