Not to be boastful, but I read this book well before it really took off. I enjoyed it a lot b/c I related to a lot that the author had gone through. Dyed-in-the-wool travelers can't help but feel an affinity with her. But looking back, I think that the author is rather smitten with herself and her life. Though it's supposed to be about transformation, ultimately she still seems to be the same self-absorbed, neuorotic New Yorker she started out as. Still, a wonderful writer. . . .
