This is one of not-really-interesting Poirot book by Agatha Christie. Christie scatters a lot of red herring all over the book, make its reader confuse and can't stop guessing among the suspects. The most important clues are being kept until the very end and there is English romance to cheer up the mood :)

This book is started with a secret trading of a legendary jewel called "Heart of Fire", which Mr. Rufus van Aldin (an American billionaire) bought for his beloved daughter, Ruth Kettering.

Ruth and his husband, Derek Kettering, share unhappy marriage. Derek has a mistress whose name is Mirelle, a French dancer, while Ruth continues her relationship with her past lover, Comte Armand de la Roche.

Ruth is going to meet her lover in Paris, which lead her to ride The Blue Train to Nice, where she meet Katherine Grey, a commoner who recently inherits vast amount of money. These two different women are having lunch together, when Ruth suddenly share her story to Katherine.

The following day, Ruth is found dead, murdered. What is the motive behind Ruth's homicide? Who is the killer? Is it Derek Kettering, who will go broke after the divorce? Is it Mirelle, the mistress? Or is it Armand de la Roche, who is after the legendary jewel? Once again, it's time for Mr. Hercule Poirot to use his little grey cells to solve the mystery which revolves around Ruth's murder.
