Language is not decaying as some pedants claim, but it is always changing.

Dictionaries and usage guides such as this one see their role as reflecting the state of Australian English now, rather than reminding us of grammar rules invented mainly at the beginning of last century.

As a working writer, I'm shocked at how much the language has changed since I began writing in 1994. Having a reference like this on hand means that I can have consistency in my work, and that I can defend my decisions to editors.

If you want to write for the Australian market, or you're a pedant who'd actually like to be up-to-date with English usage, I highly recommend this book.
