This book broke new ground in describing a problem that ruins the lives of millions of people and in explaining ways to overcome that problem. As an unofficial reference for at least three 12-Step recovery programs I can think of (CoDependents Anonymous, Al-Anon, and Adult Children of Alcoholics) and as a useful homework assignment in counseling and therapy, this is one of the most valuable books ever written in the emotional/spiritual recovery movement.
