A Million Little Pieces
by James Frey
by James Frey
I won't give a summary for this book..seeing how it made international headlines...
I read this book pre-Oprah book club scandal. And honestly I hated it. It was obvious he thought his disjointed prose was artsy and deep. I thought it was easy and annoying.
Perhaps I have seen too many people go through the whole drug life to sober life transition to be moved by this book... and perhaps I have seen too many people, victims to drugs, on the verge of death with out a hope of getting out.
His story is like the rest. He deserves credit for getting out of it like everyone else does...but thats just it...Freys take on his story seemed narcissistic and self-righteous. As though his hurtles to sobriety were so much higher than his peers.
With that said...
I was the only one in my book club to absolutely dislike this book. And many people have read it going through rehab and have benefited from his story..Therefore it was accomplished what Frey said he set out to do and I acknowledge that.
