I was lent this book by a neighbour last autumn and I actually accepted it out of politeness rather than because I wanted to read the book, because I thought it didn't sound like my kind of thing! It's sat on the shelf for months and this weekend I decided I ought to give it a try so I could let her have it back. Oh my word, I've been missing out because this is a wonderful book! It cleverly intertwines two women's stories of lost love - one in modern times, one in the 1960s. I thought I'd worked the plot out but there were so many unexpected turns that it kept me hooked till the end, and I read it in about two sittings. Highly recommended and I'll be looking out for more by this author.
