I couldn't help thinking this was South Park meets Louis L'Amour. The delightfully laconic narration of 'heavyset' Sisters' brother Eli, less successful with the ladies by far than his quick-drawing brother gunman Charlie (although far more successful at romance) is a treat. There are also elements of The Sopranos here, as Eli ponders the desirability of getting out of the gunslinger game and the ethical, practical, social and emotional reasons why it might be a good idea to do so. Some great minor characters here. All round an auspicious debut novel.
