The back of the book says it's a weird mix between This Is Spinal Tap and The Office. Uh, no. At least the people on the Office are likable. Imagine if Ryan Howard went to work at a record company instead of starting Dunder Mifflin Infinity. Yeah.
The thing is, Dan Kennedy is funny (especially his discussion questions at the end of the book) but everyone is sort of an ass in this book, even him. I got really sick of his, "Oh m god, I have no clue how to work a 9-5 or at a record company or deal with famous people/Jewel." Dude.
It is pretty sweet validation to know that most major labels are pretty much full of shit though, so that makes me feel a little bit better.
There's much better nonfiction about the music industry out there (my obvious favorite being U2 at the End of the World) so I would say go digging a little deeper at the bookstore and pass this one over, unless you're looking for a superfast read (it only took me 2 or 3 hours to zoom through this
