I love McCarthy's writing, but I never really got into the story. The Border Trilogy was easier for me to get into and seemed to have a more solid direction to it. The imagery in Blood Meridian was certainly impressive (or perhaps horrifying), but the story seemed disjointed. I finished it feeling that it was full of allusions that I was just shy of comprehending - a rather surreal feeling after 300-some odd pages.

I liked it, but found it to be too dark and mysterious for my expectations. Not disappointing, but not what I hoped it would be either. I would very easily recommend other McCarthy books over Blood Meridian.
