Book Review

Nicholas Sparks intentions for writing The Guardian was to entertain readers mainly, and to show how blind a person could make you seem by the secrets they have hidden in their past or present. Also, that some people can be a lot more dangerous than they appear. My favorite character in this book was Mike, because I can relate to how committed he is to one person. He’s a strong willed, nice, loving type of guy that was eventually meant to be with the women he was in love with the whole time and was always there for her. My least favorite character was Richard, which was the bad guy in the book. I had a feeling from the first time he met Julie that something bad was going to happen involving him even though he acted like the perfect man for her, and in the end he ruined Julie’s whole life filling her mind with the worst possible memories. This book made me feel many different emotions; sadness, anger, fear, relief at times, and happiness as well because of all the events that took place. I wasn’t able to predict the ending of the book, though I had some thoughts of how it would end, nothing was for sure; it definitely was a surprising ending. The whole book was filled with captivating events. One after another occurred keeping me indulged in the story. The two parts that interested me the most was when Mike and Julie had just started dating and getting more intimate. The end, which was the murder scene was also very thrilling. My favorite line in the novel was, “life behind closed doors is always a mystery, isn’t it”? Which is saying that you never know what’s happening in someone’s life if they don’t open up to tell you. The Guardian was my all-time favorite book and I’d suggest that anyone that loves romance/love stories, with a mix of murder reads this novel.
