Jason Corwin and Lauren Perkins...

a few months have passed... Jason is trying to make a life for himself... and his father's almost girlfriend reads his future in tarot cards - and she sees that he's ready to realign his goals, and love is a possibility if he grabs for it...

and Lauren Perkins - the sane Perkins - is in town, waiting for the debut of her clothing designs in Paris, and fixing up the family house in hopes of selling it to a family with a specific deadline... she is remembering how Jason broke her heart at 17 - when she was visiting for the summer, took up with Jason, fell in love... and was sent home when her grandmother found out - never to hear from Jason again - her letters going unanswered (yes, we know - he never got the letters)... she goes to the Halloween party masked - to check out Jason - and falls into his arms... and then pulls back...

and the next day, they meet up at the hardware store... and she is looking for a contractor... Jason overhears, offers his services... she reluctantly takes him up on it (after he requests his competitors to tell her no)... she is getting mixed reactions from towns people - some holding her responsible for her sister & grandmother's actions...

Lauren's sister, in the minimum security mental jail ward, has 'come to her senses' (she had been catatonic for a while)... and she is making plans... she wants the diamonds hidden in the house - the diamonds that are part of her ancestor's Corwin curse spell... a contractor at the hospital she is at becomes her paramour (she watches the nurses, et al, and figures out how to laison)... she continues to appear out of it, and is sending him to look for the diamonds...

conflict... Lauren is doing her best by her sister, paying for a lawyer, visiting her, trying to engage her by telling her about the house... Jason is feeling like less than he was, he has fallen back on construction and is happily helping Lauren as best he can... they are attracted, and are sleeping together, although both are holding back a part of themselves... Jason's family - especially the older men, have trouble separating Lauren from the other Perkins...someone is sabatoging the construction, and though Jason is starting to see her sister seems to be involved, Lauren just gets defensive...

and her sister breaks out... and after a week, when she thought the house was empty starts to search for the journal... Lauren returns (forgot her cell phone), her sister vacillates between 'your so selfish' to 'don't hurt my sister'... and hits her boyfriend with the fire poker, knocking him out... a fire starts... they get out, Jason had called the police...

and the cat pulls out a bag of diamonds from the damaged wall behind the fireplace... and the diamonds are given to the Corwin's - and the curse is broken... Jason is starting to be vindicated, as the woman who drugged him (steroids), drugged his competitors... 2 companies are vying for him to test & help market their ski boards... his crazy father (with the right levels of anti-anxiety drugs) proposes to ... the other two brothers marry sisters... his cousins continue to be happy with their spouses and raise happy families...

and Jason & Lauren, after a short separation, realize that goals & success are nothing without the other... ahhhh
