Noah was an eight year old with some problems at home so he decides to run away. He discovers some very interesting things like a talking dog and donkey and a strange toyshop with nothing but wooden toys. When he sits down to lunch with the owner of the toy store he tells his story and we learn a little of the story of the strange toyshop.

I received this book as an advance reader’s copy from the publisher. The marketing information says the book is for readers ages 8-12. While this is a charming story it starts rather slow and parts of the story are quite subtle. I am not sure that readers this young will stay with the story. I think it would be better used as a read-aloud for a classroom where the teacher can stop and explain things. One caution, do not start reading it to a class until you have read the whole story.

This would not be my first choice to read to a class.
