In his third "Sigma Force Series: Black Order", James Rollins's characters with two seemingly different crises. In Copenhagen, Commander Gray Pierce finds himself being introduced to a young pick-pocket, named Fiona, and on a race to track down the secrets of the Darwin family Bible while eluding would be assassins. With Fiona at his side, and the arrival of fellow Sigma Force agent, Monk; Pierce and his group find themselves fleeing Copenhagen for Germany only to eventually end up in South Africa.

Meanwhile, Sigma's director, Painter Crowe, finds himself in the mountains of Nepal and close to Mt. Everest where a monastery of Buddhist monks have resorted to mass murder, cannibalism and out right insanity. The arrival of Dr. Lisa Cummings along with their new captors, former Nazi's, leads the two on a fight to find the cure to an incurable disease in hopes of saving Crowe's life before he two degenerates along similar but more painful lines as the monks.

As is true for the series, the two seemingly differing story lines meet up and come to a head in South Africa where the group finally learns all that they are truly up against and an even darker and disturbing secret than they had ever thought possible.

My actual rating of this book is more of 4.5. I love the non-stop action which is forever present in the three locations of the book (Copenhagen, Nepal, and South Africa). The introduction of Lisa Cummings to the Sigma Force world is a wonderful addition as she proves to be a great asset in helping to save the lives of Crowe as well as stop a worldwide catastrophe. Reading "Black Order" continued to remind me of another of my favorite authors, Clive Cussler. I was reminded of Cussler in large part because of the historical and action-adventure type of story telling that Rollins uses. For fans of Clive Cussler's "Dirk Pitt" series, I highly recommend the "Sigma Force" books. Although this is only the second book I've read in the series, and not in the correct order, I continue to enjoy his works and want to read the rest of the books in the series.
