This book was an excellent fictionalized account of the true events surrounding the San Francisco earthquake/fire of 1906. It's told from the point of view of Allesandra, an opera critic for a small newspaper, who is working behind-the-scenes to help uncover an iceberg of corruption in San Fran politics.

I almost went with a 5-star read, but it's definitely a high 4. If I had been more familar with the geography and history of of San Fran I probably would've liked it even more.
