Martha, an empath, bought a mirror that drew her, and she installed it in her bedroom. While in her room, she felt another’s thoughts. She’d moved to the quiet town she lived in to get away from too many thoughts, and being in the middle of nowhere, she was confused as to who she was picking thoughts up from this night. All became clear as she saw a wolf inside the mirror, in an olden-day room. To her surprise, the wolf changed into a man and he reached through the mirror and took her into his world, changing hers forever.

Locked inside a realm, cursed by a witch, Silas has waited three hundred years for the curse to be lifted. With Martha, he’s found a woman pure of heart who loves unconditionally, and he knows she’s the one for him. He goes back through the mirror into Martha’s modern world, hoping to spend his life with her and find the other members of his clan. Martha and Silas bond further by being able to share their thoughts, and Silas knows she is destined to be his mate. He explains how that would happen and leaves it for Martha to decide if it’s a step she wishes to take.

Highland Beast is my favorite of Ms. Carlysle’s books so far. It has all the elements I love: a touch of the historical, shapeshifters, fantasy, and an olden-day man who speaks so sexily it made me squirm. I’m so happy this is a series. I can’t wait to dig in and read about the other clan members.
