I was going to give this three-and-a-half stars, but since I can't do that, I'll err on the side of 4. Craig Ferguson is a comic genius, and his writing ability gives his stand-up and talk-show host abilities quite a challenge. While "Between the Bridge and the River" is often hysterical, Ferguson gives a good account of the power, comforts, and even absurdities of modern religion. His characters are complicated, which is always good in a humorous novel.
