Kaycee writes a column for a local newspaper including stories of her many fears, not the least of which is her feeling that someone is watching her. She beleives she inherited this paranoia from her mother. Her columns and frequent calls to the police department have her labeled as "a flake".

It is also the story of Tammy who suffers form an asthma-like condition and the young daughter of Martin, a banker. In Martin's desire to get the medical attentiion Tammy needs, he aids the Costa Nostra in the robbery of his bank. Things go terribly wrong.

Trying to determine where the two story lines connected kept me reading.
