bjneary what is it about and even though disturbing--is it worth reading?

Lorie I somewhat enjoyed the book, though it made me sad, until the end when the really disturbing thing happened...The only way I can describe it is that it made me want to walk off a cliff after kicking a puppy. If I could go back in time I would skip this one.

Lorie The main character's mom can't take care of him, his dad doesn't want him so he lives with his grandma who doesn't want him and yells at him all the time. His only friend at school drops him after breaking his toy (he doesn't have many). New kids move in across the street; the oldest girl seems distrubed because her mother is terminally ill. And, oh yea, there are three kids from the neighborhood that get kidnapped in the beginning of the book. So just about every bad thing that you can think of plus something much worse, which I wont include because I hate to give the endings away, even to books I don't recommend.
