It's Timothy Zahn, so it's not bad, but it's his take on a commonplace SF theme, and he doesn't add much to it. Pilot gets offered a position on a ship, takes it, find that ship is carrying a huge secret, and trouble ensues. He as always has some nice detail, but there's really nothing novel about the plot to reach out and grab you.

There's really only so much you can do with the formula, and unfortunately he doesn't take any real risks with it. This may be a plus for you if you are tired of the ideologically driven "grand SF." It's just a well-told, albeit standard space opera.
