I've never been much for toilet humor, but I work with kids so it's kind of an occupational hazard. This book about a smelly dog that finally finds a home is both charming and funny. When Walter earns his place in his forever home, regardless of his flatulence, it sends the message that good things come in the strangest package.

However, I just read this book to a group of kindergarten students who loved the book, but got some backlash from a teacher who felt the word "fart" was highly inappropriate. The book has been read to students before at our school when it came in a curriculum set provided to our after school program from a state education agency. It didn't so much as raise an eyebrow at the time but now it has.

My point: proceed carefully when reading it.
