if you're anything like me -- and if we're friends on goodreads, let alone in real life, you probably are -- you've spent way too much time thinking about, maybe even _worrying about_, matters of very little consequence.

the good news is that chuck klosterman has made a profession of such rumination, which i imagine is even more cathartic for him than it is for his readers.

since _sex, drugs and cocoa puffs: a low culture manifesto_ is essentially the literary equivalent of "you had to be there," i'm not going to get into much detail here, save to mention that this book is simultaneously impossible to read and impossible to put down. an average page [ok, my favorite page] weaves upwards of 10 pop-cultural references in the service of decontructing billy joel's relation to the concept of "rock star cool": t. rex, jane's addiction, the white stripes, the eagles, james taylor, carole king, bruce springsteen, christie brinkley, morrissey, radiohead, REM, the beat...more
