Breathless
by Jessica Warman
by Jessica Warman
Jessica Warman's book is a great and easy read from the get- go. Katie Kitrell is a high school sophomore who is sent to a boarding school to be separated from her unstable schizophrenic brother Will. While at school, she immerses herself with her one true passion, swimming and makes a select new group of friends. While trying to avoid her real reason for moving to the school, she lets it slip that her brother died. Captured in her lie, she lives in fear that someone will find out and spread the truth. What does she do, and how will she cope? This plot line is very captivating and relatable to all readers of mulitple ages. The stresses of school, jobs, and ambitions are all tolls on the body and this book does a great job exploring these ideas.
Jessica Warman not only goes into depth with her characters, but she also inserts a bit of herself into the story. Reviewing her writing and writing style, its apparent that her own emotions and thoughts are embedded into the story giving the characters life and meaning. With this said, Breathless is a great book that covers everyday struggles and tribulations. It is a drama that makes the reader think and question what they would do if they were in Katie Kitrell's situation. What would you do?
