I think I may have become disillusioned with this series, or the shine has just worn off, or I have realized that despite the hype, the spies and intrigue play second fiddle to the romance storylines that tend to make me roll my eyes. It took a bit for me to get into this story. I liked the affectation of having Jane Austen as Arabella's best friend, but I found Turnip to be maddeningly obtuse, and Arabella only slightly so.

I want a Carnation book, darn it! I want to find out what Jane's doing, and I want a better spy plotline that I can really sink my teeth into.

I'll read the next one because that has been getting favorable reviews, but I may soon decide to give up this series.
