What a very different take on the Civil War than Shelby Foote. I think it might have helped to read this book first, just to get an overview of the major battles as well as the political context. Goodwin has even more contempt for General McClellan than Foote does, which is something. She also really likes Stanton, which was surprising after hearing Foote's descriptions of how he bungles things.

I enjoyed the details of Lincoln's adept political maneuvers to win the election and then balance his cabinet members.

I thought the reader sounded familiar, like an NPR reporter. Turns out it's Richard Thomas, aka John-Boy.

Just learned that the audio version is abridged. That sucks.
