The title says an awful lot in this 2nd part of the Power of Three saga. It becomes more clear that Brambleclaw and Squirrelflight's kits are the three referenced in this series. There are many subtleties alluded to throughout this book but many tales are intertwined as the powers of Hollypaw (sense of diplomacy) and Lionpaw (skills as a tactician) begin to emerge. Sadly, another encounter with TigerStar, this time through Lionpaw, seems to give the power-hungry ancestor a new hold on ThunderClan's destiny. However, we see that Brambleclaw appears to have at least a minor suspicion of his son's fighting strategy style and I can foresee a potential conflict building in the future. After all, the next title in the series is "Outcast" which already has me wondering and predicting.

I think my favorite part of this chapter, however, was the growth of Jaypaw, especially as he learns to walk with his ancestors showing a bit more understanding, empathy, and maturity. The little kit is growing up and, while still not entirely comfortable with his set of life's circumstances, gives hope that he is indeed destined for great things. A little shout out to my friend, Micheline, for encouraging me to give Jaypaw's character another chance ... she was definitely right in keeping the faith!

As always, now I can't wait to get started on the next book in the series and find out exactly what "Outcast" refers to ...
