After a really boring and ultimately unsuccessful attempt to finish a book that went nowhere, I knew I needed a Danielle Steel (or its ilk) to cleanse the palate. While Danielle by no means produces great works of literature, you know you can at least expect a story with interesting plot twists. Steel's writing is clear but not necessarily well-edited; I think I edit posts on my little-known blog with greater scrutiny than anybody edited this book. And of course the events are a little too sensationalized, then everything works out a little too easily in the end. But Danielle Steel's books still embody everything you like about reading: an interesting story, likable characters, and a fun escape. You don't read them because you're expecting great literature, you read them because they're fun, and this book was no exception.
