Read in February, 2008

Fun and deep + stylish prose, from 1969.

This was my required bedtime reading over the past week, and it brought to mind the great adventure stories I loved as a kid: the Count of Monte Cristo, the Three Musketeers etc, Swiss Family Robinson, etc. Turning the page of Left Hand fills you with that sort of childish anticipation.

LeGuin is able to move her(huge)story along very quickly and deftly, within 300 pages or so. It's pretty amazing to behold. In the end, who cares if it's science fiction?

The bonus is in the beautiful language.
