Starts out slow but builds. The last third of the book is wham-bam and intense. But I'm not conviced Elvis Cole is all that great. For a guy who's sailed across all the rough waters Cole has sailed in his lifetime, you wouldn't think he would be so much of an introspective whinner.

On the other hand, Cole's sidekick, Joe Pike, it one tough SOB. Really, to be honest, a more interesting character than Cole.
