No sooner does Detective Harry Bosch seem to get things reasonably back together again-- he's been reinstated to his LAPD job, his house has been rebuilt after succumbing to an earthquake--then everything goes south on him again. He uncovers an apparent mob hit, a body in the trunk of a car parked in the Hollywood hills, and runs afoul of Los Angeles Police internal politics, Las Vegas detectives, Federal agents, and an old flame who seems to be pure trouble. It's a chore to remain patient with Harry as he constantly seems to choose the harder path every... single... time, but it usually pays off for him. His investigations take him to Hollywood movie lots and Las Vegas casinos, and enmesh him in a labyrinth of schemes. I had to stay alert for this one and it definitely paid off for me as well.
