Three to Get Deadly (Stephanie Plum, #3)

It is hard to imagine the Stephanie Plum series getting any better. This time, as the dead bodies pile up, Stephanie is faced with masked men, former hooker Lula's voracious appetite, a beloved candy store owner, a group of vigilantes, the wonderful "Ranger," Her lawyer ex-husband Dickie, her daffy grandmother, and a host of wacky, crazy characters that make this novel more fun than the proverbial barrel of monkeys.
We learn that everyone, young and old, carries a gun in Trenton, New Jersey.. sometimes in comical fashion. We learn that purchasing a used Nissan pickup might have you spending more time on foot than driving around. Grandma is always disappointed in the details of Stephanie's exploits because she was looking forward to telling something wild at the beauty shop.
All of this ties in with a mystery surounding the much-loved candy store owner who has skipped bail after arrested for carrying a concealed weapon discovered during a traffic stop. Even while looking for Uncle Mo, Stephanie has to carry on with other apprehensions, like the kid who works at the hot dog stand in the mall, or tackling a chicken mascot at a busy chicken fast-food place. All of this whimsy might have detracted from the story, but Plum does a good job of weaving it all together in one of the funniest books I have read for quite sometime. Even the mystery is decent, even if she solves it sort of accidentally (sort of like she does most of her bounty hunting)..
Very few books cause me to chuckle aloud, but this one had some great lines in it that really tickled me.
