This is one of Eva Ibbotson’s kids’ books in which supernatural things happen with little indication that anyone considers them particularly unusual. In this case, Madlyn and Rollo get sent off to spend the summer holidays with their great-aunt and -uncle at Clawstone Castle (a classic set-up for otherworldly events, from Narnia to the Spiderwick Chronicles). The plot involves the declining fortunes of the castle, a herd of magnificent white cattle, and a group of ghosts that befriends the children. A pleasant but not particularly memorable read.
