** spoiler alert ** I enjoy zombie books and expect a bit of suspense and fear, but this book, although gory, did not set my heart pounding. Could be because the zombies were not the brain eating type, and the logical solution to a lot of their problems is get a lot of supplies and "wait it out." This series did not introduce anything new to the genre other than to explore the idea of a zombie apocalypse in a world where no one seems to have heard of zombies. There were enough characters introduced in this slim novel that it's easy to forget who's who. On the other hand, this is a wonderfully breezy read. The last third of the book had a lot more action-- enough so that I'm looking forward to reading the next volume in this series.
