really liked it

I enjoyed this book a lot, but it did lose a little by comparison with its predecessor The Curse of Chalion, one of my favorite books of all time. This one is great but doesn't match the first book's depth. For some reason it seems to me to get a lot more technical; it's more the pleasure of understanding the very interesting magic system than the pleasure of absolutely loving the characters and story (though they were good.)

Like all of Bujold's books, I would recommend it to anyone who loves really good, character-driven, entertaining, realistic, thoughtful sci-fi and fantasy.
