Omg that is shocking!!! Everyone has a right to their own opinion and the author dissing you on her twitter is just plain DISGUSTING!!!! What is wrong with ppl these days?!?!
It really bothers me anyone would pick on Wendy. (I had work ALL day then a soccer banquet and missed all of this initially)

It seems to be all the well thought out reviews that get nasty attention too. I didn't even find her review harsh. It's a shame, really. I was still going to read the book even after reading her review, but after all the drama I won't.
I thought her review was clever and intelligent, but didn't even think of it as snarky. The line about the party was just great.I don't understand this myth of "not reviewing DNF" because labeling something DNF doesn't tell me anything about why. You may have lost the book, it could've reminded you of an ex or a bad memory or anything. More than anything I think DNF needs an explanation.
I totally agree. More often then not, I believe there are two types of people who believe that myth: 1) Some authors who have yet to realize that reviews are for other readers and consumers 2) Other reviewers that don't believe in writing negative reviews at all for various reasons (it's mean, they don't like to, they are trying to keep recieving ARCs, ect.). This is not a professional reviewing site. I'm not sure why some people sit back and expect to recieve mounds of critique and wisdom from readers' reviews. As Cory said earlier in the month: "I am not your beta reader."
I have a bunch of youtube haters (seriously I filmed a negative review of a James Patterson book like 2 years ago that still gets comments today) who are under the impression an audiobook doesn't count either.A review is meant to explain your experience with the book, however much, however little or in whatever format you experience it.
Someone made a comment on twitter "I wonder how many manuscripts that @ElanaRoth has passed on without reading very far" or something along that line. Thought it was an intelligent comment that made a good point.
I also think people say readers shouldn't review DNF because 99% of the time people DNF because they really hate the books. And people who say you should just keep reading don't understand...there are so many better books out there why continuing reading one you don't enjoy?
Yeah, I saw your video. It was awesome. Lol. I would sit and laugh so hard at the comments. People think you're only allowed an opinion if it's positive. That is so unrealistic. "Why did you continue reading?", "You didn't even finish it!", "Your review is mean and it hurt my feelings!", "Why write a review if you are just going to be negative?" It really irks me when people think there isn't a place for negative reviews and that the author is owed something from a reader. If someone stays at a shitty hotel that has rodents runny around, mold on the ceiling, no heat, and piss poor customer service, are you going to leave a review saying, "Well, I didn't really like staying there, but the coffee wasn't too bad." No. You would probably try to earn all your friends away from staying there and write an angry letter to their corporate office.
Negative reviews have their place. People need to see why others enjoyed or hated a book. You can not have gushing reviews without the snarky because words are powerful things. They can envoke very strong emotions from a reader. And it is that readers right to share their feelings however they choose.
The comments on my youtube video have brought me hours of joy. Honestly the video was just up for awhile then at some point it started getting passed around and I get comments notifications daily. I'm so excited that it's creeping close to 10K views. I don't trust reviewers who never give a negative review. There has to be some scale to judge. If everything is 5 stars then how do I know I can trust your opinion? I want warning if I'm not going to like a book. Sometimes I feel lied to buy all the hype and I want voices that aren't going to bullshit me out there so I can know what to spend my hard earned money on. That's what I like about goodreads, you can find reviewers who aren't just trying to get more ARC but are willing to tell the truth without any reservation.
I've written google reviews when a business isn't up to par (I honestly should do more for businesses I like as well). Why are authors the only one's who need to be coddled? Someone owns that business. Someone makes movies. Someone writes TV. I can say whatever I want about ALL of those very publicly without fear of retribution. And author's aren't the only ones on twitter and other social media sites. They're just the only ones pulling this nonsense.
Whoa, 10k? That's awesome! You know? I love getting ARCs, but I can't sit and lie to other readers about a sucky book. I guess the publishers don't have too much of an issue with me since I'm still on the auto-approve lists. But if other bloggers just want to write 5 star reviews, that's fine. It's their right to do so, but don't bad talk those of us that aren't afraid to speak out.
I've noticed my reviewing style had changed since I first started early last year. My reviews used to be way more snarky and have tons on images. But they aren't like that anymore. Now, I find myself only using an image here or there and I go into better detail about what I like and dislike. One thing that hasn't changed? I never take shots at the author. Never.
I don't know why authors are the exception. I think it would have something to do with not having proper PR training. That really needs to starting being standard.
Here Julianna. I checked last week and it was like 8,500 views. Today it's at 9,300. And that's just been maybe over a week.http://youtu.be/Xvu1R93tn3Q
Not having proper PR training is one thing, but to me it seems like common sense. Given I have a communications degree and have done some PR work. But I try to behave in a way online that isn't going to reflect poorly on me. That's how I've always managed my facebook--only put up pictures that I'm okay with employers or children seeing. Yes I do vent about my personal life on my twitter, but those people aren't on twitter. Talking about people reviewing on the internet ON a public internet site just seems dumb. I tried to find a nicer word for that but there isn't one.
How hard is it to understand PR? The things you do in public reflect on your product. Twitter/Facebook/Blogs are public. Also think before you tweet is generally good policy. I could do this training in like a day.
It does seem like common sense. I'm just an average joe and even I know not to say certain things in public. The Internet is public. You and Wendy need to teach a class. Lol.

*sucks in a sharp breath* Yikes... those comments are mean as heck... O.O But hey, you saved me from buying a bad book! (not that I would've bought it anyway. Not the biggest fan of James Patterson.)
They are mean but they are so unintelligent that at the end of the day I feel better about myself. If stupid people hate me then why does that matter? They grammer and spelling literally makes me LOL. Maybe my skin is just thicker than some author's we know.
I don't see why they mess with their readers-an author wouldn't be an author if they don't have people to buy their book.
Pamela wrote: "You know, only REAL YA readers would like this book so I don't know about you..."I happen to like many YA books. The enjoyment of a good book has nothing to do with one's age. *shrug*

I know that, but then, I didn't know you liked YA books. Sorry. Why don't you check out The Selection? I really liked it!
Based on a few friends' reviews who have similar reading tastes, it just doesn't sound like my kind of book. I'm glad you enjoyed it though. :)
