Angelology

This is a "Davinci Code" wannabe, and not nearly as good or well-told. Since I know very little about some of the subject matter, it could be well-researched ... or not. I do know that it got very dry and boring in many places. The prose often got lost in a swamp of inconsequental details. Some of the crucial scenes were just impossible, not because it was dealing with angels and other "other-worldly" beings, but because of the scene's plausibility. For example, when the group of angelologists is surrounded by the Gimbourine at Rockefeller Plaza, half of the group is allowed to just walk away. Another character is allowed to move away from the confrontation long enough to find "the treasure" and pass it to one of the characters who had already made their escape. Riiiiiight. (That is just one example of instances that were impossible to swallow, even in fiction.)
I thought the narrator was extremely talented, providing distinct voices for each character. I did notice in one or two spots where she "mixed up" the voices. It wasn't distracting, just amusing. I do think I would not have enjoyed the book nearly as much if I had read it. The narration made even the drier parts easier to get through.
