Ishmael Horatio Wang and his partner, Pip Carstairs are called before the Captain and find themselves standing with First Mate Mr. Maxwell, Chief Engineer, Mr. Kelley and Cargo Master, Mr. Cotton. They are apprehensive, believing that they are going to have to answer for an incident involving one of their Coop Booth Manager's, fighting at the market. They are much relieved and pleased to find they were called in to be complemented and offered promotions for the good jobs they have done during the previous six months. Pip stays working for Cookie as a steward but, has his salary and mass allotment increased to Full Share and Ish is transferred to Environmental as a Half Share Engineer but, he has to stay and help as a Steward until his replacement is hired. This starts a new story where the emphasis of shipboard life is more about self improvement and relationships than the technical aspects of being on a Starship. They have a novel approach to welcoming and putting at ease the new replacement and expanding their Coop operations while recognizing new opportunities to improve shipboard processes and life. Ish becomes more entrenched into the crew and enjoys the pleasures of comradeship that extends into relationships with Spacers from other ships when visiting Port Side Clubs on the 02 level. The focus on dedicated "good work", respectful interrelations and good will makes the ship's crew of the "Lois" a happy extended family. This is a grand story with sufficient action to maintain interest and character traits that make the crew endearing. Impossible not to like the warm banter and mischiefs the crew share, like having an extended family of your own. Oh I forgot to mention, there is another group of interesting characters introduced as players from the other ships in port at the same time as the "Lois". This group adds interest and expands the story possibilities for the reader's benefit! Now I'm anxious to read the follow on book, "Full Share" and hope the planned new releases are soon available so I won't be stranded without a path for continuing this enjoyable story!
