I loved the style of interconnected stories and the way you would get slightly different glances at the same characters & their situations in each story. each character had a unique voice and point of view, which can be hard to make work. the interstitial sections on the history of the paper &, in the last one, the future of the characters in the book, are all very charming. I think that I would have given this 4 stars if I wasn't slightly off-put by the fact that seemingly every woman in the book is disturbingly desperate or in a weird power dynamic situation with men- generally the women seemed to all be bitches or pathetic (or in one case, both). but, they were all well-realized characters, I just wish there was a little less sameness to the women. still, minor issue- overall, I enjoyed, it was a quick, engaging read and full of fascinating moments and people.
