I gave this book a 4 star rating, though in truth, it rated somewhere between 3.5 and 4. What made it lose points with me was the side story of their fathers which did not add much to the story (in my opinion) and the fact that there was too much angst. I'm all for misunderstandings and hurt on either side but in this story, it was a little too much. Everything could have been easily sorted out if only they had talked to each other. But then again, that could have reduced the book by half.
But other than the extra dish of angst, I liked the story. Both Kellan and Nate took turns in having the power in the relationship and exposing their fears and weaknesses. For all his righteousness and liberal gay lifestyle, Nate was still madly in love with his first crush and spellbound by him up to the point of acting like a fool.. and causing some of the misunderstandings between them. But I could understand his point of view too: after dreaming for so many years of someone, it's hard to think it real when he actually does land in your lap.
Kellan seemed at first a kid with all his whims fulfilled. Never taking no for an answer, no matter the question and a full time player. But along the way, he turned out an okay guy. Maybe it was being around Nate or just too much anger at his father but he ended up realising he was attracted to guys. And his boldness in becoming intimate with Nate was both funny and interesting.
Overall, it was a nice read, though a bit heavy on the angst. But for me, Mitchell's books are always a lovely way to spend the time.
