Dense with insights and observations by richly drawn characters and plot, this book is also too long and yakity-yakky. Certainly the self obssessed wordiness of the characters is intended by Franzen to reflect the baby boomers' need to constantly assess and talk about where they are, where going, where been. Clever, but quite the tome. I'd recommend, though. Franzen is brilliant at creating a world that the reader becomes part of. Pulling your head out of this book is like waking from dream.
