This was an interesting fantasy story, involving a little time travel combined with historical pre-WWII events. I'm not a big fan of heavily nautical adventures, particularly when sailing ship terminology is a big part, so I didn't especially care for that aspect. As in many adventures with young (teen or pre-teen) heroes, in this book some of the feasibility of physical and mental accomplishments have to be somewhat suspended in order to enjoy the story. There was a bit of "Treasure Island" feel to this, and I do think young people might enjoy it more than adult readers. However, it was quite different from many of the fantasy stories for the young that I usually enjoy reading. I did rather enjoy it, though.
