I really, REALLY, REALLY wanted to love this book. I really did. As a nerdfighter, I was ecstatic when I started reading it. But right from the beginning, I knew it was going to be a big disappointment. And I was right.

It's definitely not as good as Looking for Alaska. Colin (not TOC) is just plain annoying. He's always got something matter-of-fact to say and it makes you roll your eyes after the third time. He was hard to like. Also, the footnotes drove me CRAZY. Despite them being a secret appendix or whatever (despite the fact that I was excited that Daniel Biss made an appearance through words in the book), they were unnecessary and annoying. The ones for translating the French or Arabic dialogue were good, but otherwise they just weren't. Another thing I disliked was the Theorem.
