I read the Jack Ryan series in the late 90s/early 00s, but I didn't read this one I guess. I am no re-reading the Jack Ryan series again, and I am glad I missed this one the first time around. The first half to two thirds of the book were really dull and hard to read. At least I got to sleep quickly when I was reading this before bed! Once I got towards the last half or third of the book, it did start finally getting more exciting, but the action didn't quite seem like the usual full detail of what I expect from Tom Clancy. It was almost like Clancy wanted to stuff a bunch of back story into this book about the Ryan family and how the Soviet government worked, but then put the action in as a second thought. I gave this 2 stars because once I did get to the small good part of the book, I did have trouble putting it down like a good Clancy novel should be.
